Memphis guard Ja Morant will miss the first 25 games of the upcoming season for his second known incident of displaying what appeared to be a firearm on social media.
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said this about Morant's suspension.
"Ja Morant's decision to once again wield a firearm on social media is alarming and disconcerting given his similar conduct in March for which he was already suspended eight games. The potential for other young people to emulate Ja's conduct is particularly concerning. Under these circumstances, we believe a suspension of 25 games is appropriate and makes clear that engaging in reckless and irresponsible behavior with guns will not be tolerated."
The NBA said that Morant would also have to adhere to certain conditions before being reinstated. It is the second time he has been suspended in the last three months for showing a firearm on social media, following an eight-game suspension in March.
Morant posed with a firearm in a car during a live-streamed video on May 13, less than two months after he was suspended eight games without pay for the live streaming of a video on March 4 in which he displayed a firearm while in an intoxicated state at a Denver area nightclub.
Morant is due to make around $33.5 million this season. He now stands to lose just over $300,000 per game during this suspension -- or approximately $7.5 million.The National Basketball Players Association is unhappy with the length of Ja Morant's suspension and the arbitrary nature of the conditions for his return.

Scholar and activist Cornel West is running for president as a candidate for the People's Party.
West said he was running for "truth and justice" and that the presidency was just one vehicle to pursue those goals.
West tweeted.

The People's Party is a progressive political organization that advocates for policies such as Medicare for All, a Green New Deal, and a $15 minimum wage.
West, a professor of philosophy and religion at Harvard who has written numerous books on race and social justice, is known for his outspoken criticism of Democrats and Republicans.
