King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands has apologized for his country's role in slavery.
The Netherlands is commemorating the anniversary of the country's abolition of slavery. Speculation had been growing that the king would offer an apology on behalf of the royal house. Last year Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte apologized for the country's involvement in the slave trade and slavery, but stopped short of offering compensation to descendants of enslaved people.
It is part of a wider reckoning with colonial histories in the West that have been spurred in recent years by the Black Lives Matter movement. DW correspondent Christine Mhundwa has more.

"Sean “Diddy” Combs has seen another lawsuit filed against him, and the documents reveal claims that may be the most egregious of them all recently lodged against him.
Diddy has been under fire ever since his ex-partner Cassandra “Cassie” Ventura filed a 35-page lawsuit against the music mogul on Nov. 16. In it, she talked about enduring almost a decade of mental, physical, and sexual abuse at the hands of the former Bad Boy Records founder.
The 54-year-old settled with Ventura within 24 hours after the lawsuit was filed, which opened the floodgates for other alleged victims to follow Ventura’s lead."

In a unanimous ruling, the Supreme Court has ordered the Trump administration to "facilitate" the return of Kilmar Abrego Garcia to the United States, after the Maryland resident was denied due process rights and deported to the notorious CECOT prison in El Salvador. But the court remains vague on how exactly this would happen, and the Trump administration has claimed it has no way of ensuring his safe return. Elsewhere, a federal immigration judge in Louisiana is set to rule today on whether the Trump administration has grounds to deport Mahmoud Khalil, a permanent resident of the United States who was involved in a campus protest at Columbia University. Ahead of today's ruling, Secretary of State Marco Rubio filed a short memo that concedes Khalil has no criminal history, and argues he should be deported as part of U.S. efforts to combat antisemitism. We speak to attorney Ramzi Kassem, who is part of Khalil's legal team, about the cases of Abrego Garcia and Khalil. Kassem says the Supreme Court decision on Abrego Garcia's case is "a step in the right direction and will hopefully lead to his return home."

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration will move to reclassify marijuana as a less dangerous drug, according to the Associated Press.
The DEA’s proposal, which still must be reviewed by the White House Office of Management and Budget, would recognize the medical uses of cannabis and acknowledge it has less potential for abuse than some of the nation’s most dangerous drugs. However, it would not legalize marijuana outright for recreational use.
This clears the last significant regulatory hurdle before the agency’s biggest policy change in more than 50 years can take effect.
