Nikki Haley, former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, pushed back on the recent national reckoning on racial injustice in the United States during her speech on the first night of the Republican National Convention on Aug. 24, 2020. “In much of the Democratic Party, it’s now fashionable to say that America is racist,” Haley said. “That is a lie. America is not a racist country,” she said before going on to talk about what it was like for her growing up as the child of Indian immigrants in a small Southern town, where she said she faced “discrimination and hardship,” but nevertheless went on to break barriers as a minority female politician. Haley decried the loss of Black lives in America, as well as recent protests against racial injustice that have turned violent in some instances. “It doesn’t have to be like this,” Haley said, remembering bipartisan support for the decision to remove the Confederate flag from South Carolina’s state capital after a white supremacist shot 12 African-American worshippers at a church in Charleston back in 2015, leaving nine dead.

Scholar and activist Cornel West is running for president as a candidate for the People's Party.

West said he was running for "truth and justice" and that the presidency was just one vehicle to pursue those goals.

West tweeted.

"I am running for truth and justice as a presidential candidate for the People's Party to reintroduce America to the best of itself - fighting to end poverty, mass incarceration, ending wars and ecological collapse, guaranteeing housing, health care, education and living wages for all! The People's Party is a progressive political organization that advocates for policies such as Medicare for All, a Green New Deal, and a $15 minimum wage.

West, a professor of philosophy and religion at Harvard who has written numerous books on race and social justice, is known for his outspoken criticism of Democrats and Republicans.

A bill that would ban colleges and universities in Florida from using funds to promote diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives is one step closer to becoming a law.

Gov. Ron DeSantis says DEI initiatives and the teaching of critical race theory are being used to push a political agenda.

“It’s using the administrative apparatus of the university to impose an ideological agenda," DeSantis said in a round table discussion Monday.

One concern that has been voiced online is that the proposed law would shut down Black and multicultural student-led organizations, like sororities or fraternities. The bill’s author, Rep. Alex Andrade, says that's not the case.
