Chance The Rapper: SaveMoney, Save Friendship | The Vic Mensa Show Episode 1

On the premiere of The Vic Mensa Show, Vic Mensa sits down with @ChanceTheRapper for a deeply personal conversation about Chicago hip hop, rap rivalry, reconciliation, and brotherhood.

Vic kicks off the series with the person who has known him the longest. He and Chance have been brothers since they were 13, when a talent show at Jones College Prep and a studio session paid for by Chance’s father first lit the fuse. They revisit their early days in SaveMoney, their mentor Brother Mike, and the YOUmedia scene that helped raise a generation of Chicago artists.

Chance and Vic also share stories behind “Cocoa Butter Kisses,” Acid Rap, The Big Day, Star Line, and the Black Star Line Festival in Ghana. They open up about jealousy, their unspoken falling out, the road back to genuine brotherhood, and how their friendship shaped them as artists and men.

The conversation also explores Black liberation, Pan Africanism, faith, fatherhood, community investment, and the relationship between music, culture, and politics.

The Vic Mensa Show expands on the honesty, humor, vulnerability, and radical conversations of Vic’s Orange Tree Series. Subscribe for new episodes featuring artists, thinkers, and cultural voices from across disciplines.
