இலங்கையின் கரையோரப் பிரதேசங்களில் தமது ஆதிக்கத்தை நிலைநாட்டியிருந்த போர்த்துக்கேயரிடமிருந்து நாட்டை விடுவிக்க வேண்டுமாயின் பலம் வாய்ந்த கடற்படை அவசியம் என்பதை கண்டி ராசதானின் அரசர்கள் உணர்ந்திருந்தனர்.இதனால் இரண்டாம் ராஜசிங்க மன்னன் போர்த்துக்கேயரை இந்நாட்டிலிருந்து வெளியேற்ற ஒல்லாந்தரின் துணையைப் பெற்றுக் கொண்டான். எனினும் மன்னனுடன் செய்து கொண்ட உடன்படிக்கைக்கு மாறாக செயற்பட்ட ஒல்லாந்தர் போர்த்துக்கேயரின் ஆதிக்கத்தில் ஆதிக்கத்தில் இருந்த பிரதேசங்கள் பலவற்றில் தமது அதிகாரத்தை நிலை நாட்ட நடவடிக்கை எடுத்தனர்.அதன் விளைவாக 1658 ஆம் ஆண்டில் தீவின் கரையோர பிரதேசங்களில் ஒல்லாந்தரது ஆட்சி நிறுவப்பட்டது. அது முதல் 1796 ஆம் ஆண்டு வரை ஒல்லாந்தர் அப் பிரதேசங்களை ஆட்சி செய்தனர். இந்தக் காணொளியில் இலங்கையின் கரையோரப் பிரதேசங்களில் ஒல்லாந்தர் ஆட்சியை நிறுவியமை, கண்டி இராசதானியுடன் அவர்களது தொடர்பு, ஒல்லாந்தரது ஆட்சிக் காலத்தில் பொருளாதார பண்பாட்டுத் துறைகளில் ஏற்பட்ட மாற்றம் என்பன பற்றி இந்த காணொளியில் விளக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது
